Feds investigating MaineCare (Medicaid) for illegal aliens
The Mills administration, specifically the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), seemed to be terrified over an investigation by the Federal government of Maine’s government giving illegal aliens Medicaid. In a freedom of access request by the Maine Wire, DHHS Commissioner Sarah Gagne-Holmes made it clear that the goal was to avoid a Congressional subpoena.
Such a subpoena comes with specific requirements that must be might by the Department. Holmes appears to be concerned that the outcome will show she has allowed the law to be violated by giving people who are in Maine illegally, access to Medicaid, which is expressly prohibited under Federal law. This could bring about significant legal charges against department personnel and vast financial costs as the Federal government seeks to recover misused funds by Maine’s government.
As we have witnessed time and again, the Mills’ administration has operated Maine’s state government by their own rules, wants and desires. Examples include handing out over 2,000 no-bid contracts without following the competitive bid process that is required by law. This was demonstrated by the state auditor’s report.
Additionally, DHHS, which operates child protective services in Maine has violated state law several times to reunite at-risk children with their families, so they met a percentage thresh hold which brings financial bonuses. In the case of three-year-old Maddox Williams, they violated state abandonment laws to reunite him with his mother, and she killed him by stomping him to death three months later.
Governor Mills and her administration have been silent on the death of 149 Maine children who were in state oversight or state care. They have only spoken about this when legally compelled to do so. I can only assume it is because if they ignore it, the regular media will not cover it and then they have no responsibility for such a shabbily run organization.
