Florida Football
It was a great win this weekend over FSU, during a very difficult season for both players and fans.
The hope had been that if Lane Kiffin was to leave his current job at Ole Miss, he would land in Gainesville. He has always had such reverence for the Florida football program and great admiration for former Coach and Heisman Trophy winner Steve Spurrier. Plus, he was married to the daughter of former Florida great, quarterback John Reaves.
Alas, it is not to be as it is rumored Kiffin will sign with LSU for roughly 100 million dollars (early Sunday rumor, 11/30/2025).
Florida’s sights have apparently turned to Tulane Coach John Sumrall. Although Sumrall has a good won-loss record over his last 50 plus games (42-11), his resume is thin and not the kind of big-time coach Gator Nation hoped the University would hire.
Now that he has been hired, it is time to hope for the best.
Aside from assembling a good staff and trying to retain current personal, the number one thing Sumrall can do to restore the Florida program is to instill discipline. Florida’s football program has had a series of coaches who themselves were undisciplined on the sidelines, so their players just followed the behavior of the coach. Not a good mix in a place like Florida.
From spitting on an opposing player, to throw an opposing player’s shoe down the field, to unsportsmanlike conduct penalties at the absolute worst time and most crucial part of a game, Florida has beat itself with selfish, undisciplined play. It must stop on day one, or the Gators may as well part with the new coach now, because the results will not change.
I have been a Gator since before I could remember. I bleed Orange & Blue. I only want what is best for Florida. I hope the choice they made, brings out the best in our beloved University.
